Ithaki is the best-known island of ancient times, it was mentioned in Homer’s “Odyssey” and “Iliad”. It is the island of Odysseus, the hero of the Trojan War. Homer wrote about the attempts of Odysseus to return to his beloved homeland.
Ithaki is a picturesque island, with beautiful beaches, wild mountains and traditional villages.
  In the 16th BC the island was used as a base for pirates, helping them to raid the surrounding areas. Together with the other islands of the Ionian Ithaki was ruled by the Venetians, the French, the Russians and the British.
